Dreaming of becoming a pilot?

Join the next course at Sindal Flying Club.

Sindal Flying Club is approved by Trafikstyrelsen, formerly the Danish Civil Aviation Administration, as a Registered Facility for ground school and examination recommendations. Competent, experienced members and pilots teach and guide you through the course. If you choose to train with us, you remain under Sindal Flying Club’s wing until you are ready to fly yourself.

Obtaining a private pilot licence for ultralights, PPL or LAPL is not as difficult as some people believe. As a starting point, anyone in normally good health between 17 and 80 can obtain a pilot licence. You need the desire to fly and the determination to get fresh air under your own wings.

Sindal Flying Club normally holds an information evening in autumn about private and professional pilot training. You can hear what it takes to obtain a pilot licence, including:
- Medical and background requirements and the training programme.
- Theory and practical training, and the cost.
- How long does it take?
- What can you use the qualification for as a professional or private pilot?
- Arranging a trial flying lesson at a later date.
Ground-school teachers and a flying instructor will be present to answer questions. Talk to Sindal Flying Club members and an instructor, who will be happy to help clarify your options. Put the date in your calendar. See you there!

Trial flight

Typically a 20-minute flight costing DKK 300–400, depending on the aircraft type. Contact vice-chair Knud about trial flights.

Ground school

Ground school is not difficult, but it is extensive: approximately 130 hours covering meteorology, aviation law and regulations, navigation, principles of flight, aircraft knowledge, and human performance and limitations. A national or international (English) radiotelephony course is added. The date of the ultralight/LAPL/PPL theory examination is set at the start of the course, usually in March or April.

Flight training

Once ground school is completed, practical training can begin. You normally choose the qualification you want: PPL(A), LAPL(A) or ultralight. Practical training may take place at a flying school or with an instructor of your choice. Ultralight training can be provided in the club by members who are ultralight instructors. Training takes place in dual-control aircraft. The student flies the aircraft, while the instructor can take over using the dual controls. Exercises include landings and air work to develop aircraft-handling skills, as well as navigation flights to other Danish airports, learning to find your way from the air and account for other traffic, from private aircraft to large airliners. The stated minimum practical instruction is 45 hours for PPL(A), 35 hours for LAPL under the EASA rules introduced on 8 April 2013 for aircraft up to 2,000 kg, and 20 hours for ultralights before the practical test. This makes an ultralight licence less expensive than a traditional PPL or LAPL. The actual number of hours needed varies from person to person.

Membership of Sindal Flying Club

The ground-school course includes membership of SINDAL FLYING CLUB, an active club with 70 members. Members include private PPL pilots, ultralight pilots, professional pilots and people with a general interest in aviation. Membership gives access to club events, private-aviation news and the opportunity to meet experienced pilots from varied backgrounds and learn from their experience and inspiring stories. Annual membership costs DKK 325.
