More about the club and our activities
  • Sindal Flying Club is a very active club.
  • The club is a member of AOPA DMU (the Danish Motor Flying Union) and the Danish Ultralight Flying Union (DULFU).
  • The club has its own hangar area at the airfield, where some members have built hangars for their aircraft. Four hangars have currently been built, with space for another three or four.
  • The board has seven members, with positions including chair/ultralight pilots’ chair, vice-chair/head of ground school, treasurer, secretary/ultralight equipment officer and chief pilot/ultralight training officer, elected at a general meeting in accordance with the articles of association. An ordinary general meeting is held once a year, on the last Thursday of January.
  • Ten aircraft owned by club members are based here, including a Cessna 150, C-172 and PA-28. Ultralights have joined the fleet in recent years, including a new Aeroprakt 22L in 2013, as well as a Pipistrel, Savannah and Shark.

Dakota Norway

In 2011, the club formed a wonderful friendship with Dakota Norway, which operates a Douglas DC-3/Dakota and a North American AT-6 Harvard, both from 1943. Dakota Norway’s members are exceptionally welcoming and helpful, supporting our club at events such as our open days. Some Dakota Norway members have also joined Sindal Flying Club, and some of our members have joined Dakota Norway. Another great way to support each other!

Club gatherings

We regularly hold club meetings and events in our premises at Sindal Airport.
See the calendar, which is updated regularly.
On the last Sunday of every month, from 10:00 to 14:00, everyone interested is welcome to an open club meeting over a cup of coffee.
If aircraft are available and the weather permits, we take a flight.

Events

In summer, we organise flights both within Denmark and abroad. Domestic trips may include the aviation museum and KZ & V rally at Stauning, a visit to SAS at Kastrup, air shows, fly-ins or open days at airfields around the country. Trips abroad may take us to Sweden, Norway, Germany and elsewhere.
In winter, we organise activities such as visits to businesses, Aalborg Air Base, Frederikshavn Naval Base and TV2 Nord. We also invite F-16, Hercules and helicopter pilots and other interesting speakers to the club, and arrange bowling evenings, video screenings and more.

Pilot licence

If you are interested in obtaining a powered-aircraft licence (PPL(A), LAPL or ultralight), contact the club. We enrol students and provide ground school, while a flying school of your choice handles practical flying. The club can provide practical ultralight training through its own instructor. SLV, the former Danish Civil Aviation Administration, now Trafikstyrelsen, approved the club as a Registered Facility for PPL(A) and ultralight ground school and examination recommendations. Radiotelephony training is also provided, currently for national operations only.

Sindal Airport was established and opened in 1976 as a joint project between the municipalities of Frederikshavn, Hirtshals, Hjørring and Sindal. The initial partnership agreement between the four municipalities ran until 2011. Some years before then, Frederikshavn Municipality announced that it no longer wished to participate. However, it continued its support until the agreement expired in 2011.

Following the municipal merger, the enlarged Hjørring Municipality, comprising the former municipalities of Hirtshals, Sindal and Hjørring, became the owner and operator of Sindal Airport. This also made decisions easier, as only one municipality now had to agree rather than four. In 2014, the airport’s board was replaced, and the airport came under the Technical and Environmental department, with the mayor at the top of the organisation.

Besides the airport building, control tower and other premises, the airfield is home to ScanTech aircraft maintenance, formerly Business Flight Center and now owned by SUN-AIR. A large hangar east of ScanTech is owned by Ivan Andersen of Ålbæk. Sindal Flying Club, with 90 members, rents rooms in the main building and has an area of municipal plots at the eastern end of the airfield, where some aircraft-owning members have built their own hangars.

The airfield has refuelling facilities for AVGAS 100L and JET-FUEL A1.

The control tower is staffed Monday to Friday, 08:30–14:00.

THE FORMAL DETAILS

Articles of association

The club’s rules on membership, the board and general meetings.

Read the club’s articles of association

§ 1

Subsection 1. The name of the club is Sindal Flyveklub.

Subsection 2. The club is based at Sindal Airfield, and its financial year follows the calendar year.

Subsection 3. The club is legally represented jointly by the chair and one board member.

§ 2

The club operates in association with the Royal Danish Aeroclub (KDA), the Danish Motor Flying Union (DMU) and the Danish Ultralight Flying Union (DULFU), in accordance with their applicable rules and provisions. Its purpose is to promote interest in aviation and flight safety in the broadest possible sense.

§ 3

Anyone connected with or interested in aviation may become a member. Towns, municipalities, companies and institutions may become members by paying an amount set by the board. No member has more than one vote at the general meeting. Spouses may join free of charge, but without voting rights.

§ 4

Subsection 1. Club membership ends in the following ways:

- By resignation, submitted in writing to the board with one month’s notice before 1 January.

- By membership fees remaining unpaid for more than two months despite a written demand.

- By expulsion, where a member has acted in a way that may harm the club’s interests or reputation. Expulsion is decided unanimously by the board. If agreement cannot be reached, an extraordinary general meeting must be called to make the final decision.

Subsection 2. When membership ends, all rights and obligations arising from membership cease, including any shared ownership of the club’s assets or other benefits.

§ 5

The annual membership fee is set at the ordinary general meeting and falls due at the end of November. The final payment deadline is 15 December. Honorary members are exempt from membership fees.

§ 6

Subsection 1. The club is managed by a board that represents the club’s interests and administers its funds.

Subsection 2. The board is elected by a vote among club members at the annual ordinary general meeting for two-year terms. The larger and smaller halves retire in alternating years, determined initially by drawing lots at a board meeting following the general meeting.

Subsection 3. Alongside the board election, the general meeting elects two alternates for two-year terms. If a board member leaves, an alternate serves for the remainder of that member’s term, in the order in which the alternates were elected.

Subsection 4. Re-election is permitted. At its first meeting after the general meeting, the board assigns the positions of chair, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary, chief pilot, ultralight chair, ultralight equipment officer and ultralight training officer. The ultralight chair, equipment officer and training officer must be active DULFU members and are elected by and from the club’s DULFU members. The ultralight equipment and training officers do not necessarily have to be board members.

Subsection 5. Board meetings must be held whenever the chair or two board members consider it necessary.

Subsection 6. Any member of legal age who is not in arrears is eligible for election to the board.

§ 7

Subsection 1. The ordinary general meeting elects two auditors from among the club’s members to audit the club’s bookkeeping, cash holdings and accounts.

Subsection 2. One auditor may instead be a professional auditor who does not necessarily have to be a club member. The board sets that auditor’s remuneration.

Subsection 3. No later than 15 January, the board must submit the accounts, bearing the auditors’ endorsement, to the board.

§ 8

The accounts, signed by the board and audited, must be made available for members to inspect before the ordinary general meeting. A copy may be sent to members who request one.

§ 9

Subsection 1. The general meeting is the highest authority in all club matters. The annual ordinary general meeting is held every January, following written notice to members at least 14 days in advance. The notice must state the time, place and agenda.

Subsection 2. An extraordinary general meeting may be held when the board considers it necessary, or when requested in writing by at least one quarter and at least ten of the club’s members, specifying the matters to be discussed. Notice is given in the same way as for the ordinary general meeting, but with only eight days’ notice. The meeting must be called no later than fourteen days after the board receives a valid request from members.

Subsection 3. The general meeting is chaired by a person elected by a vote among the members. The meeting chair need not be a club member. The chair decides all questions concerning proceedings and voting, unless they consider that a question should be referred to the general meeting for decision.

Subsection 4. A written vote must be held if requested by at least one member present.

§ 10

Subsection 1. The following agenda must be considered at the ordinary general meeting:

- Election of the meeting chair.
- Presentation of the annual report.
- Presentation of the annual accounts.
- Setting membership fees and the budget for the next financial year.
- Election of board members.
- Election of board alternates.
- Election of auditors.
- Election of representatives to unions, if applicable.
- Consideration of proposals received.
- Any other business.

Subsection 2. Proposals seeking a decision by the general meeting must appear on the agenda included with the notice. For ordinary general meetings, they must reach the board no later than 31 December.

Subsection 3. All questions at the general meeting are decided by a simple majority. Each member present who is not in arrears has one vote.

Subsection 4. Amendments to the articles of association require at least half the club’s members to be present and approval by at least two thirds of those present. If a proposal receives the required majority but fewer than half the members are present, the board may call a new general meeting. The proposal may then be passed by a simple majority, regardless of attendance.

§ 11

Subsection 1. A decision to dissolve the club may only be made at a general meeting specially called for that purpose. At least half the members must be present, and approval requires a three-quarters majority. If the proposal passes without half the members being present, a new general meeting must be called with eight days’ notice. The proposal may then pass by a simple majority, regardless of attendance.

Subsection 2. On dissolution, the club’s assets are transferred to an account at a local bank. They must be passed to any subsequently established powered-flying club in Sindal, provided the funds are used in the interests of general aviation. If no new flying club is established within five years, the assets may be used for another charitable purpose.

Subsection 3. If the club is dissolved as part of a merger, amalgamation or establishment of a new club in the area, the general meeting deciding on dissolution may transfer the assets to a newly established powered-flying club.
